Lying to your kids

i had this huge discussion with my family when i was pregnant.
im not religeous in the slightest so i didnt want her to think santa was real.
since iv had her there has been no way of actually getting her to believe hes not. i mean when xmas comes hes everywhere, books, coke adverts and obviously in town and stuff.
easter bunny is something we havnt got round to or the tooth fairy.
tbf i never minded the tooth fairy, i mean she gives u money...completely different kettle of fish.

but death...i was exposed to it ALOT from the age of 2 so i knew what it was about.
with her she has seen fish die, we have had her favourite cat put down, but where im happy to say they died and wont b coming back, my nan tells her they have gone to heaven etc.
obviously where i have snakes, she see's me feed rabbits, rats and mice and will soon b the occasional piglet or lamb. to her its food, which essentially is what all animals are to everyone in the world.

im very up for just being honest, theres no point in pretending somethings not what it is. soon shes going to have to face human death and id rather her know about animals first...that sounds warped but i dont mean it like that lol

I've talked to my son about death, I'm honest with him, one day mommy is going to die and one day so will you. Everyone has there time on earth and their end I don't think its morbid just a fact of life.

My son once saw a dead dog hanging from a fence and to this day still gets upset about it, he wanted me to get a someone to come and fix him but I told him that he's dead there is no fixing him. Do I feel bad that my son saw the dog, absolutely my heart broke to see him so upset, but am I sorry that I didn't tell him that a vet or some magical faery was going to come and make it all better, no way. It was also a discussion that there are very bad people in the world and thats why you never talk to adult strangers without mommy. My mom thinks I'm taking his innocence away, maybe I am, but at least I know my son won't walk off with someone to help them find their puppy or get some candy.

I know its a varience of opinion if you are a normal and healthy person who chooses to have a child I know that on either side of the coin the lies or truths are told to them out of love. I always kid that I if loved someone as you loved your child you could bet on a restraining order.

at least its one of the best ways to take his innocence.
i dont think it is, as such. i spose in a way it is, but they r going to have to learn sooner or later and i much rather it b sooner than later.
the way the worlds going kids NEED to learn young.
when i was a kid i could play out in the street or walk to school and my mum never had to worry.
now i wouldnt dream of letting el play out the front of the house or walk to school...and we live in a GOOD nieghbourhood.

u see these kids in town walking around in miniskirts and knee high boots with hair and make up done to the latest fashions....they r only about 8!!!
im not saying they deserve anything to happen to them but its not surprising....i know that sounds awful but what parent lets them wear make up and buys them those clothes at that age anyway....AND lets them go to town on their own?

sorry lol rant over, maybe im oldfashioned in my thinking but id rather keep her safe then purposely expose her.

I agree, if I had a girl she would be a tom boy (hopefully anyway), but either way dressed as a little girl. Halloween is the worst little girls in skimpy outfits running around town knocking on strangers doors in the dark. I can't believe sometimes what I see parent's letting thier young daughters walk out of the house wearing. Its scary stuff, when Aidan was born I looked into mircochipping him, like I could track him with a GPS microchipping, and not some obvious braclets that could be cut off, I wanted it under the skin. I was surprised that its not on the market to be honest.

The only thing my parents ever lied to me about is Santa, easter bunny, ect.. they told me it was all real but then when i asked if it was fake they said yeah, it's all fake.

I never went through that, were you disappointed with them?

Not really. It's not like they tried to keep telling me santa was real after I realized he was fake. Believing in Santa was awesome as a little kid, I'm glad they said santa was real.

^ my son loves loves Santa (that jerk gets credit for presents that I worked for and bought). I joke with him and say Santa is a pirate that says arrrggggg and comes and takes yours toys on Christmas, and he laughs and says no mommy Santa is awesome (so are pirates).

I see the other side because he does get so excited, leaves cookies and milk for him and its all his thoughts or things he's heard from other people because I've never told him any of it.
