It is a virus, it's not cureable, it will spread, every once in a while I'll get in a batch of fish with that stuff, I euthanize them, sterilize the tank with potasium permaginate and never buy fish from that guy again. Ken

Hint, Hint ;)

Sensing a little subliminal message as well huh? :grinno:

Man, if it aint one thing its another with those festae!

I had a firemouth with this once. It aggressively spread and then it seemed to get better with the lesions dropping off after myxacin treatment. However the fish was left with open sores and grazed scales and it didnt take long before it was back again. The fish started to get ill and lose weight. I decided to put it in a quarantine tank but eventually it died, probably partly due to depression. This fish was house with a G. Brasiliensis and a false foremouth and an opaline gourami and none of them got the disease.

I just recently went to a LFS and was shocked at the conditions - nearly all their SA cichlids had a case of lymphocystis and did not look in good shape. I mentioned this to the owner and he said he would treat them and told me to come back in a couple of weeks if I wanted any of them. Needless to say I won't bother.

It does seem to be brought on by stress as the firemouth was always stressed out trying to avoid conflict with the other two.

Is it always a big growth on the edges of the fin or on the side of the fish?

I have some spots on some fish that seem like whitish nodules but they are only on the rays of the fins (not on the edges). They dont get big (maybe 1-2mm) but they havnet gone away. They seem to me to be under the skin not on top of it and you can tell if its on the front or back of the fin but still under the skin. I have not aggressively medicated for things becasue I dont really know what it is.

I was thinking about trying Parinox from this link since it was a broad treatment of things since I dont know exactly what it is. I have been reading lots of things to try and figure it out but im not an expert. http://www.capitalcichlids.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4135

Lympho is a virus, so it won't go away, even with medication. It tends to flare up (appear) during times of stress.

I know that it spreads but am not sure if it needs to be visible to spread.

Matt

guys this thread is over a year old, just in case nobody caught that lol, but yeah lymph sucks and will continuously come back anytime the fish is under any kind of stress, i wouldnt add any new fish to a tank known to contain lymph

if a fish has it but 10 other fish don't show it do you still euthanize every fish in the tank

To be safe and 100% certain you got rid of it yes. Fish can be carriers of lymph and show no signs.

This doesn't sound like lymph, and if it is lymph no treatment will help so save your medication.

Do you actually have to scrub your tank down or once the fish is gone the lymph is gone? and empty everything
