I have an open 75 gallon tank and boy it's hard to choose my last solo option. I'm torn between either a male cuban or male lyonsi.
I've had a male solo before but passed away due to heater malfunction but they are beautiful. Never had lyonsi and a males coloration is spectacular.

If any of you guys had an option, what would you choose?

I would choose a Lysoni of you 2 options, but a male Beani would look great as well 😅

I’ve never kept tetracanthus so I can’t comment on them but I currently have lyonsi. They’re definitely calmer than most Amphilophus but with that said I find that they’re kind of boring, at least mine have been. I’ve never really done a solo wet pet but if I did it would need some personality, with that said lyonsi is comparable to having a really stupid, super model for a girlfriend. My largest, oldest male is tad under 12” and he does a little peacocking, giving me that stank red side eye occasionally when I come close to the tank that’s the most exciting thing he does.

Agreed 100%. Still love them but not as a solo..

I had A. istlanum as a solo for a bit.. after losing or having to rehome all of his tankmates. Definitely didn't lack personality.. I only kept mine to ~5+" so I'm not sure how they'd do in a 75 for life..
