I was thinking about getting one from dan at cichlidsoftheamericas, does anybody have one from him and can one live with some pbass? And which one is more colorful, male or female?

I have a breeding pair and they both look the same, I didnt get them from him but I got an order last week from him and all the fish looked excellent, depending on your bass, you shouldnt have a problem, my bass were in with my SA's without issue
In a vaccuum, I'd say yes... your lyonsi should be fine with your pbass. Males and females are somewhat similar in appearance, though I'd have to say that it seems to me that the females develop more pronounced vertical bars, and the males seem to tend to have more pronounced throat areas. At least from what I've seen... this is not a scientific fact, so don't take it as such. Just a casual observation.
Of course, tank size and size of specific fish matter. On the one hand, I guess that goes without saying... but on the other hand, you never know around here! LOL...

huh... both male and female lyonsi are identical in color, shape and size. If you don't like that male's 'chin' then you might as well go with another species because your female will look exactly the same.
This is probably true... right now, my female does look different, but then, she is also noticeably smaller, and simply may not have developed the pronounced chin yet. Here is a pic of the female (and actually, as I look at this now, is rather clear to me that the throats are indeed going to develop very much the same... not sure why I did not notice that initially):
