M or F Dempsey

I'm going with female by looking at the color on her face and her dorsal fin length.

Okay, I am still not quite sure. Disregard the second picture in my first post, it was taken when the fish was around a year old. I could see why you would guess female looking at that picture. The other two pictures are more recent.

Thanks

definitely a male

this is a picture of my definite female, notice the the coloring on the lower jaw/gill plate, and look back at SCOOTERBUCKS, its not as low and its not as dense

My vote is male. I've seen quite a few male jacks with a bit of spotting on the lower jaw, so that's not a reliable way to sex. Can you get a shot of the vent?

5 votes male and 5 votes female. Are people just flipping a coin?

It's obviously a male. Females have solid blue on the edge of the gill plate, which this fish lacks. A few spots don't indicate female.

Male definitely. I have had females and they just don't get those spangles, they get a really blue gill, but just because it has some blue on the gill doesn't instantly mean its female, I mean its gotta be like brtnboy's left pic.

I have only had female jack dempseys and none of them could hold a flame to that dempsey (besides the fact that the fish is underwater).

ya i dont know where anyone got the idea that this fish is a female, none of its characteristics look female
