im not sure about tigs but a friend of mine had 3 juruenses at baby size and one grew faster and become more dominant towards the others. The other Js constantly had torn fins so i think tigs will be the same.
tigs will fight so better to get more than 2 to spread out the agreesion. i had 2 4" in 100g and they almost killed each other. had to put a divider in.
just be prepared for missing trailers and split fins.
Would Polypterus and Tigrinus be a good mix if roughly the same size? Are these fish like RTC (will eat any and everything they can fit into their mouths) or do they eat smaller food items?
Also are these from fast flowing water areas? I seem to remember a book showing the original captures near rapids. So are good water movement and high O2 levels required?
Lastly price: I saw a 10-12" specimen available for $200. Nice fish but pricey, didn't know if this was about right or not.
Do they mix well when young? Im thinking of buying 2-4 3-4" tigs from danny then growing them on. Thought its best not to over feed, adding loads of feeders to the tank might make them binge heavily wont it? Also T1, polyfilter? Would you use this soley as filteration, with no biological media?
i have lost lots of tigs in the past but since using the polyfilter i have been fine
use what ever filtration you would normaly then put a sheet of polyfilter in a inturnal filter their is not much point in powerheads as all they do is move water or add air at least with an iturn filter you are getting the added bounse of extra filtration
polyfilter removes all the heavy organics from the water and changes color when its dead
i have been using polyfilter on my tank now for 18months in which time i havent lost any tigs and my rays have bred so i would have to say the stuff is great
after 3 weeks of use the polyfilter is near finished in my tank and you realy start to see the water go down hill within 3hrs of changing it the tank is back on track
