i have no idea on growth rate... he has put on some size since we got him but more girth than length...

he seems to be vert stunted.
sulcatas arn't really built for eating anything other than grasses.
They can get well over 100 pounds in 15 years.

That is one cute litle guy/girl:D But there´s absolutley no way to sex it at this age (without doing a autopsi wich pretty much ruins it for anything else;)) . At this age boys and girls look exacly the same. Whit age however secundary sexual caracteristics will appear. Males will be bigger and heavier ,have bigger and stonger tails, a concave plastron and longer gular scutes(that they use in ritualistic figts against other males). But thouse caracteristics can take more 3 or so years before they begin to apear and will take much more years before they became really proiminent. In the mean time the critter seems ok, has no sign of piramidism. I would however ad a few changes to garantee a good and perfect growth. First of cut with the pelleted food. Unless you are using Zoomed grassland tortoise food or Mazuri tortoise food there is not a single pelleted food that fills the needs of this tortoise. Insted put more heavily on the grass, weed and dark leafy vegetable side. Hay and spine less Opuncia are great foods. Make shure you have correct temps, a good Uv 5.0 ligth (zoomed´s are very good but not the compact ones) and take him outside a few times a week for sun bathing under constant vigilance. Good luck:D
