But would the nikon lense produce £500 better pics than yours? Is it that much better?

True micro/macro lenses (fixed focal length prime lenses) provide accuracy in detail to the finest extent and you can get shots that would never be possible without them. For Nature/Wildlife photography there a absoulte must. Nikon happens to offer possibly the best macro lenses on the SLR market in the 105 VR and there new Tilt shifts.

To many average eyes looking at a shot and giving it a once over, meh whatever, if your into photography you want all the detail, contrast, color, and sharpness that a macro would provide.
