just picked up a mad barb/golden shark today and this guy acts like a dam aimara & stuff head banging on the tank & etc. realy active as heck too! oh and hes pretty dam big... around 16" just wanted to share lol :D also any info on this species of barb will be pretty helpful couldnt find much online...

I just read that they can reach a maximum of 40" but specimens are normally recorded about 26" in nature so figure a bit smaller in the home aquarium. They are schooling fish and need a large tank for them. Says minimum of 10'x4'x6' footprint so pretty much a pond.

Omnivore. Stomach contents are said to include plant matter, zoo plankton and also smaller crustaceans.

Sexing. Sexual mature females are more full bodied than males.

Home aquaria breeding has not yet been accomplished.

Keep tank decor to a minimum do to the hyper active nature of this fish.

Hope this helps.

wow a max of 40" didn see that one coming... lol well its around 16" right now & its in my 205g/w & i am already planning to build/buy a bigger tank so i think it'll be ok :D the tank i plan to buy/build will be around 13'x5'x5' either in my living room so i can show off to ppl who come to my house or in my room so once thats up and running it should be all gravy :D the big tank will prob be stocked minimally or understocked since its really just a tank upgrade for the stock i already added a couple more additions in the future if i can get my hands on the ones i want :D lol

btw what are the price ranges on these? are they expensive or cheap? cause i paid 80$ for it just wanna know if i got a good deal or got suckered... lol

I found some online for $9.99

how big are they? dam if it was 10$ for a 16" one .... fml...lol

And if you want the scientific name to be able to search them in depth more it's

Leptobarbus hoevenii

Size isn't stated but they look to be no more than 3". But I know they grow really fast.

how fast do they grow?
