Made my own food

well the test feeding went fairly well.

My juvi cichlids kind of ignored it, until it sunk, the clown loaches got a hold of it and made a mess, the juvi synspilum and green sev ate some, clowns seemed to really like it.

My big cichlids loved it (jack demps, cons, gold sevs) and ate it without hesitation
(not a surprise they frenzy over evertything)

It was bit messier than I'd hoped, it breaks down into small particles fish seems to get most of it, I wouldnt use it too often unless you have a good clean up crew or barebottom tank

if its messy, save it as a treat for the day before you do your usual gravel/sand cleaning.

even if only a few fish like it, its some good stuff for them without any garbage fillers. just time feeding them with cleaning their tank within a day or two.

Cool recipe. Also wanna mention, should shut your filters off durign feeding, so food dont fly everywhere and the fish eat most of it.

I used about double the gelatin travis did and didn't have to worry about the filters, it held together.

BTW, cod liver oil will work fine. The liver oils are the only reason you're using chix liver in the first place.

Thanks for that cassharper,

I will double up on the gelatin next time (although I have so much food in my freezer it should last me a year) May try the liver oil next time too

I use UGF's (braces for insults) on my tanks, so i dont have to worry about clogged filters

I am considering using something like this to feed to my plecos. How long does it take for your food to sink?

sometimes the food doesnt want to sink, most of the time it takes a few minutes
to thaw and then snks
but if you let it set in water until it is totally thawed
and then kinda squish it to get the air out, it will sink all the time

That's what I do to the Big Cichlids. Throw in some frozen cubes, 4-6 and let them chow down. Makes a huge mess but I only do this on the day that I'm gravel vacuuming and changing tanks, so it's all good.
