Mag- Drive 2400 making horrible noise

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have the same pump, and sometimes after I do a water change, I would turn the pump back on and it would make that noise. but than I learned to just turn the pump off and let it back syphon for a couple seconds then turn it on and it's fine.

....and it is always is quiter when it is fully submerged with it sitting on a sponge

I've always used mine submereged in a sump, not in line......never heard of leak problems....but would never see them when submerged. As for noise, they're not the quietest, but it shouldn't have a problem pumping water up 5 feet......however, if you get air in the line, it won't be able to pump because there is not enough water to keep up pressure. These pumps are made to pump liquid, not gases. Any pump designed to handle liquid will have trouble pumping when the liquid is nearly gone.

this seems to be weird but i have been running my mag drive 18 today... the last time it had a pin hole leak... now its gone..:screwy: i don't know why... and i don't want it to come back... it has been running for 28 hrs already... would i still need to open it or just leave it as an inline?:screwy:

with regards to noise... their is some vibration noise i hear... but it's mostly my overflow box that's making all the splashing water... need to get some bioballs or some media to lessen the noise. honestly... i like canister filters ... they don't produce as much noise as wet/dry filter with pump. but wet/dry filter perform better... much better and much cheaper in the long run.

just got a mag 18..hope its quiet
