Mag Float vs. Mighty Magnet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Received the F4 from UPS today and set the box on my desk.

LOL, Do not set these large magnets near computer monitors. It's a good thing my monitor has a "degauss" option.

Has anyone else used Mighty Magnets since this last post?

I've got a 3m high, 80mm thick glass panel to clean. Looking for good or bad experiences from anyone using the larger sizes please.

I have used the Algae Free Magnets some of them float but the Great White does not iirc. Don't pinch your fingers.

I have used both the Mag-Float and Aqueon
At the moment I have Aqueon, because it came with the used tank. It is about on par with the Mag

But in reality they only work if used frequently enough to get algal spores before getting a foothold in the microscopic fissures of the tank walls.
For glass my go to, is a razor blade

Thanks for the suggestions. My tank is 3m deep & fairly long. I'm getting too old to dive each time I want clean glass.

Rick from Mighty Magnet is quick to respond. The larger magnets if allowed to touch can't be separated again.... ever. Sayonara to $1K. 00 So definitely would break bones and crush fingers.

I'll go for the version strong enough for 4 inch glass. In case I get a bigger tank one day.

I don't have acrylic but thought I'd mention that I have had a Mag Float for 15 years. The rough pad was deteriorating and I was able to buy a replacement pad from my fish store a couple years ago without having to buy a new unit.

This statement is true of any magnetic algae scraper strong enough to clean material 1in or thicker. Always scared the crap out of me when I was getting ready to use or putting away my heavy magnets.
