K so i know bubbles dont actually put oxygen in the water its the current exchange at the surface of moving water that the bubbles create.
if im wrong correct me please.
so my question is, i have a pump that circulates water at the surface and i have the bubble hose attached so it shoots bubbles. even though the waters moving quickly do i need the bubbles going?
the tank is 7 10"+ cichlids in a 100G great filtration. water pump is about 400gph

Question would be, do you like or dislike the bubbles.
Usually, with decent amount of surface agitation the bubbles won’t add much of a benefit to your tank.

Since you have a 100g tank and 7 10" fish and only 400gph worth of filtration I would definetly keep the bubbles.

You need all you can get with such a low amount of flow/filtration.

i agree, i never have under 8 times turnover on a cichlid tank..
minimum pump i would have on yours is 800GPH.. minimum..

I think you skipped over

It was my impression the 400gph was the powerhead, not the filtration.
Or am I wrong?

ok, to answer the question, no you dont NEED bubbles...
as long as the surface water is being broken, its not needed..

so, if i get this right, if i angle the output nozzle of my filter so the water coming out of it agitates the surface....i don't need an expensive air-pump for my 90 gal?
How much agitation are we talking here? can someone post a pic of their air-pump free setup?

i have 2 huge filters way more filtration than i need tank is always crystal.
i use an extra pump at the surface to move the water, so do i need the breather tube?

the pump is 400 gph it says.
so as long as the water at the surface is moving quicky at the surface im cool?

basically enugh to break the build up of skim at the top of your tank if you look up at the surface of water and notice a thin film or particles then you need more if their is non or small amounts then you should be fine
