The 55 gallon i got yesterday came with a magnum canister filter and i cant figure it out i set it up it runs for a minute then stops

if your putting media in the magnum theres a very good chance that theres a piece of carbon down in the bottom around the magnetic pump shaft, it gets stuck in there and won't allow the the impeller to turn, i only use the cartridge in my magnum cause i tried media and kept having the same results, but it works awesome with the cartridge if you have some other filter to put media in
do you have the flat donut gasket under the cartridge and the other donut gasket on top of the cartridge? when starting the filter you need to fill the canister half way with water then connect it to the lines ....open the valves...and turn the motor on for 10 secs...then off it will finish filling up....you may need to lift it off the base and tilt it to get some trapped air out but it still sounds like you may have something down on the magnetic shaft that drives the impeller...it only takes a tiny piece and it will stop the motor dead in its tracks
all the output puts out is bubles and the motors goes loud then soft like
