Mahseer ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And T. Tor and T. Putitora are pretty easy to distinguish when they've got a little size and stability to them. Tor will always have a red tail and Putitora will have yellow.

Here's an image of a tor Tor, the identification was after DNA sequencing.

The orange and yellow tail doesn't hold true, for. Identification, my tor tors are orange tailed.

Very interesting. So there is basically no way of telling what they are without DNA.
So what are the three orange tailed ones on the right if not musullah? The two Tor Tor looks nothing like Putitora which was mentioned to be identical to.
I'm really confused now.

there are two separate train of thoughts regarding the mussullah or the humpbacked mahseer respectively. So there is research happening with regard to both train of thoughts, now which researchers will get more peer review approvals, will decide on what it will identified.

And about the tor Tor and Tor putitora, the above specimens have short snouts, but there are tor putitora look alikes among the tor Tor as well.
The physical traits such as the colors ranging from bright orange or pale yellow, have been observed amongst both the tors, and the long snout and short snout also is not a definitive identifying marker as there are tor putitoras that have short snouts.

The problem being the locale of these species overlap, and the conclusive study on them is yet to happen. Now there is work happening on these and hopefully we will get more information pretty soon
