Awesome pond Ken! The masheers look great! 72 degree water....Hah! Its been partially snow/rain here. Another reason I cant have a pond where Im at now. Keep them pics coming.

Wes, please keep me in mind.

Gangster, snow? A greenhouse won't even save you. Atleast you got your tank indoors. This will be my first winter with what I think is tropicals outside. If it fairs well, watch out! Didn't want to mislead you all but they are barbs not mahseer.

slight off-topic question that you might benefit from :
referring to wes's comment. does algae and tanning really make them look much better? cuz i have my hagen GLO VHO t5 "tanning" my mahseers like 8 hours a day, can't really compare that to real sun light huh ._. and algae? wonder if i started feeding them some veggie like lettuce and what not, what would happen ._. cuz i know a friend who kept mahseers in a planted tank, it was a disaster for the plants as the mahseers ate most of the plants, but it looks much better and grew a lot faster than mine ( same specie bought at the same time same size...)

Ken may be able to shed more scientific information on this subject as regards to Koi and how it enhances their colors.

For masheers, I took a couple of putitora out of the pond, and the color was green with gold scales, and the tor mosal, you won't believe it, the sides are almost pink/orange colored, I didn't get a picture as I was wading in there trying to catch something out.

I think for most fish the out door sunlight benefits them making them nicer.

I don't have barbs inside to compare with the ones outside but for kois algae is a must for color. Color enhancing koi food is packed with spirulina and krill. I personally belive fish need natural sunlight. That's why I'm not happy with my tanks in the dark garage.
In one of my thread I mentioned that the barbs pooped green so I know they are munching the algae. When I first put them in, the pond was lined with half inch long algae. After a few week it was all gone. Now you only see balls of green poop in the pond and no long algae.

i am now inspired to feed my mahseers algae ( or errr.... different types of food i guess xD)

The food that has worked best for my putitora and Neolissichilus species has been nightcrawlers. They've bulked up noticeably since I cut back on pellets and started feeding a lot more nightcrawlers. FWIW, my putitora won't touch lettuce or leafy greens, whereas the Neolissichilus hexagonalepis eats EVERYTHING you put in the tank.

I agree with you on the putitora, they are more carnivorous. I feed my fish grapes sometimes an the putitora usually ignores it, but the other "tors" love them.

there are no known veggie that r toxic to mahseers right? like how dogs can't eat grapes??? cuz i dont wanna go experimenting and end up poisoning all my fish ^^;;

Wow, how long you have them outside the pond ? I'm planning to put 2 outside but affraid of the weather too cold for them. Looking good on your pond .Thanks for sharing the picture . btw what's size are they now ?

I had them outside for three months now. I'm guessing they are about 16". They definitely enjoy being outside. They shoal together and swims really fast. I was told that they do jump so be careful if you don't have a net or coping around the pond. They also like to strike the pellet at the surface splashing water everywhere. Good luck.
