Hello all I have the opportunity to get a 3000 gal custom built tank (not diy but made by a company in socal. I've talked to the guy and am a little concern about the monthly cost.
He said that the monthly is around $1000.This includes all the food and chemicals. (it's saltwater) He has a bunch of MH and T5 lights a 1500 gal sump and other various things that he needs to run the tank. My question< Is he just lowbawling me on the costs to get rid of the tank? I have had an 800 gal before and If I'm not losing my memory I believe it cost me about $375 a month. What do you guy's think?

Yes it is!!! wow that was quick. I belong to another forum as well and there opinion is that $1000 is way too high. but none of them have monster tanks so i thought someone here would have a better idea, after all this is MONSTER FISH KEEPERS!
ps: Thanks for the link I was going to post it in the for sale section later to see if anyone else would be interested in this tank, saves me the trouble of trying to figure out how. lol

Alot of variables come in play. What's your stock looking like? Where will this be placed? If used for freshwater, I'd imagine the maintentance costs will be reduced. I have no idea about saltwater, I would bet some of the other individuals who own large tanks like these will chime in.

"Every six months, you have to spend another $1500" ......on what???

IT'S FREE, WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if its too expensive to maintain, sell it for a profit :)

but yeah i cant speak on its maintenance costs because i dont have a tank that big, but it does seem a little too high

I have a 2000gal freshwater that only costs around 100bucks/month to keep for everything: water, electic and food.

If this guy has sent you any pics or anything let us know and post pics here. We all seem to think this guy if full of SH** b/c he has yet to show pics. and yet to reply to any E-mails sent from people here.

so post up what info you got on this bad boy.

1K a month is over the top but it's all in how it's setup and how it's stocked.

Stock with natives and you cut A LOT of cost b/c you don't need a heater.

It will only cost about 100-150 a month. Similiar to a pond.

the guy probably subbed out all the work...
