Wondering how everyone changes their water without raising or lowering the temp in the tank?

I have just been doing so by touch. Feeling the water in the tank and then in my bucket of new water and adding hot or cold until it feels right.

Thats what i do too.. only difference is that mine goes straight from tap to the tank.
As long as the temperature is within 5 degrees, it should not be detrimental to the fish. It can even be beneficial because changing temperatures ( as long as they are not extreme ) can be conducive to breeding fish .

during the summer up to right about now my tap water is about 75 f so i just add it in it wont bother big cichlids but with delicate fish u got to get whithin a degree or 2. i got 55 gal rubbermaid trashcan bring it in the fish room fill add chemicals add
heater ,themometer and wait till the temp is right and change that water a55 gal does almost a 50% water change on my 125 gals works great lol.

I'm fortunate enough to have space for several large water storage tanks. They trickle fill from a filtered municipal water line. I heat the hatchery by heating the building instead of individual tanks. So, my staorage water warms to the same temp as my tanks.

I quit using a bucket for water changes. I use a Lee's or Python siphon that hooks to the sink. I drain the water ( yes, I vacuum the gravel) to the point I want and empty the hose checking the temp. I then adjust the output of the faucet to the temp I want or close, add the water conditioner and then fill the tank.

Why wouldn't you vacuum the gravel?

What I do is make sure the wetdry gets filled to the top with the old tank water. Siphon about 50% of the water. When I plug in the pump, it starts to pump the heated water back into the tank. I only notice a 3 -4 degree drop at most.

I do it by feel & have always been within 1 degree change (the water added may be off by more, but the tank change is never more that that...
