I usually use buckets......
How do you stop the temperature from fluctuating? when you pour cold water in the tank???

You don't put cold water. The water goes through a heater. If I had to carry buckets I'd switch to keeping birds or insects.

What I haven't figured out yet is: How to siphon with the pump straight to the bathroom?
For now I clean the gravel into a 10g bucket and pump from the bucket. But that's one step to many.

lose the gravel !! that's one way to lesson the step's ,provided you have the filter capasity to make up space for the bacteria that the gravel would provide
