Wet Whiskers is right, don't remove the hiding places. Unless you want a ridiculously stressed fish and decrease the chances of a smooth "settling in." Also, on the blue "moon lights," I highly recommend them. Since I own lots of cats, I have them on two of my tanks- helps me to see what a vastly different world it is after the main lights go out. (And helps me to see my striped raphael even more often)

I put an ornament in the tank that allowed him to feel something around him while still seeing him. Either a relatively flat tree/rock with large holes in it or clear glass tube. Once I put him in a large tank with good log like cover never saw him again.
