Ohkey Dokey, this I did not know. I thought diatoms were calcium based. Do you know if there is a direct relationship between the sand and brown algae? Meaning, is there a higher propensity for its growth in a sand substrate tank vs. a gravel substrate tank? Also, do you know if the brown algae absorbs the silica from what is disolved in the water or does it get it directly from the sand?
