Making my Plywood tank!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My first choice was sweet water, but to hard to get in Canada so i tryed pond shield. i don't think i would use it again . i was still trying the epoxy road but there is some impressive builds going with liquid rubber.

best sealer? both have its ups and downs. sweetwater is a paint and go, but cost more then liquid rubber. but with liquid rubber you have to epoxy and seal the windows. Unless we find out that 3m 5200( think that is what another member is trying to use) works out.

Okay. I dont really have a price range because my old man is buying all the materials. This is my birthday present. Im just helping him build it. Which means I'll probably be doing most of the work. :)

Your second picture, the blue tank with windows, is that the tank all the way to the bottom or is part of that tank stand?

If that is all water, you may want to reduce the height; otherwise the fish can be hiding way down low and in front where you will seldom see them.

I like the look of it. You may just find the windows a little small for viewing the fish though.

Waiting anxiously to see this build started!

Yea thats why I put in 5 windows. That picture includes tank AND stand. Sorry about not specifying.

For construction, I think Im guna start it up Friday because this week is really busy with football, crew and other sports and what not. Sorry for any inconvenience. haha

In response to your "sealer" question:

On my 3000 Gallon build I used Pond Armor to seal or waterproof the wood, and I used Dow Corning 832 Multisurface Adhesive/sealant, 10.1-ounce Cartridges, Gray, to seal the acrylic window to the pond armor coated plywood.

I have seen other builds on here where they used a "Hardie" board layer on top of the plywood because the Pond Armor seals the best on cement (Hardie board is roughly 1/4" sheets of cement board).

What I like about the Pond Armor is that it is basically odorless, seals well developing a sturdy, hard surface, and has a good choice of colors.

It can be a little tricky to work with, so follow the instructions exactly and start off doing small batches to get used to working with it.

If you do decide to go with Pond Armor, let us know; I can chime in again with some of my own personal suggestions and experiences with using it.
