I recently got an l015 pleco in my 29 gallon planted tank, all day it hides beind driftwood, and only comes out and eats at night, but also if i turn of all of the lights and close the shades. Is there anyway to change its sleep schedule so to speak?

I have a freshwater lion fish that is the same stay in a little cave all day long then comes out at night to hunt guppies. I am thinking of removing all the caves and rocks and leaving the lights on at one end of the tank and make another side a bit darker. Just a thought though have not tried it.

The only problem with removing all the caves is that in my experience it just stresses out the fish more, i axtually foind that the more hiding spots they have, the more they come out

Hello; Might be difficult to change the nature of a fish. It may be likely to continue to hide during the lit period and be active during the dark. Also might not be the best thing for the fish. In zoos I have seen the nocturnal exibits being lit with red lights which apparently does fool the animals somewhat into being active and which we people can see by.

Yes, colored lights do help. Keep the lights in the room off and use blue or red lights.

That could be cool, too. :nilly:

I used these dark blue lights for my fish. There like a black light that's the only time my Catfish would come out lol

Let nocturnal fish be nocturnal. I tried this with some expensive plecos and ended up almost killing them due to stress. The more hiding places they have the better. Actually they will come out if you feeding in the evening once they get used to it. Fish in general hate light and you would to if you could not close your eyes due to lack of eyelids. I only turn my lights on in the evening and even then it is a light from a 10 gallon tank sitting on a 65. My tank has redhooks barbs and plecos and there is so much more c=activity with the lights off. The room light although brite does not seem to bother their activity at all.
