Making your own stand and lid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've built my stand for around $100 (AUD) worth of 2x4 and $72 for the outter ply and $45 for the top ply, the timming for it add on some costs but only like $30ish and the outter ply sheeting I bought I got enough to do the canopy what i'm building atm as well.

So all up I spend about $250 + my time for a 8' Lx2.5' W stand thats about 35" tall (can't member exactly i measured based off me sitting down to view the tank)

So its $250AUD vs 1500-2000 to get a stand and canopy for that size tank from the lfs around

i don't trust the stands you can buy for them. when i took a closer look, all that's really holding your tank up is some 1x4's. IMHO, not near enough support. i built a stand for my 55g out of 2x4's and painted it black. it actually looks really good.

it also helps if you have some experience, i've been a woodworker for a long time, even had a job at a custom cabinet shop for 1 1/2 years in high school.
you can get the general idea from this pic
