i thought it only polite to update seeing as people are commenting.

He is now actively accepting Lancefish, prawns etc and is nearly as voracious as ever. No idea what the issue was but he VERY nearly had my fingers earlier. Over the last week or so he has certainly developed a gut. I'm guessing he's about 11" at the moment.

he was most likely just going on a normal hunger strike.
some fish tend to do that.
