Can i use malachite green to medicate rays?
All of the rays in my tanks got white spot ( they look like grain of salt all over the rays body), and I can't get any prazi on time.
I live in Indonesia and I can't get prazi over here.
All we have here is malachite green. Even now melafix is no longer available, they are all out of stock.

I did put some melachite green in my tank just now and they look fine.
But I don't see them in the sticky "safe medication for ray"
So I'm just worried....

I did some research in the net, but i don't think melachite green does contain any copper.

Please help...
Thanks in advance

Not recommended at all.
Prazi doesn't treat ich and usually rays are not susceptible to ich.
A photo of your problem would help.

You also need to work what might be causing White spot as you need to fix the problem.

Please post up water parameters too

Ph, nitrite, nitrate and ammonia along with a quick run down of size of tank, type of filter and water change regime

If you do get whitespot then I personally would add a big uv steriliser and allow the cycle to kill itself off at the free swimming stage.

As dadvid w has said...probably not whitespot.

These are the photos of the sick ray. I just took only 1 of them. I still have 3 of them that have the same symptoms

I use the UV filter already for 36 watt.
and my tank is 3000L
filter: sump filter
temperature: 30 celcius
Amo:0
PH: 8
NItrite:0
Nitrate: I will check it later
last time I check it was still in the minimum zone.

water change usually once every week, but eversince the ray sick I change them everyday 10% + SALT
I have been keeping rays for 4 years without any problem , and this is the problem that I can't solve.
I am hoping that you guys can give me solution.

The rays seems to be very itchy, it keeps on scratching around.
Sometimes they will curl up for awhile, then it's back to the original posture. Sometimes it will stand on it's 2 back feet, and the disc curl up.

doesn't appear to be ick. If anything i would use furazone green. it's ray safe and it acts like a cure all.

Hi dookie,

I can't get Furazone green.
But i manage to get jbl argupond.
The content is Diflubenzuron.
I saw in the sticky that this medicine is ray safe

Can i use this instead?

If you don't know what you are treating for then don't just throw in meds.
IDBT
Parasites are not treated with antibiotics.
I suspect that this issue is related to your hard water (pH8 indicates very hard water)

Hmmm, water params look good but interested to hear the nitrate although unless very high I would rule that out.

I have heard of a few on here at ph 8, my water is quite hard and ph 7.5 and many on here stick to the keep it simple and keep them in tap water.

It isnt like any ich I have seen, we need a few more to view to see if seen before, I agree with david that you don't want to just go just chucking meds in but if you are worried then you gotta do something.
