You are finding great finds. Today the male was dancing, so I hope the female will take the hint soon. Though I don't have a good growout tank ready. Also it looks like my albino Eurekas might finally be ate the age to start holding, problem is that an german red is the one doing all the dancing... And I could strip my borleyi red fins since she has been holding for at least 3 weeks, but again can't be sure the male is the right male. Though the Red Fin male is the largest fish in the tank he is just a big whimp though.

Anyways will update likely soon. Camera ran out of juice while I was taking some shots of my Discus. (It has taken me like 2 months to get them to be happy with cameras and today was like the first day I could get ok shots.)

Aulonocara (Rubescens), aka Ruby Red Peacock

So I like the Ruby Reds, they are active, aggressive for a peacock, grow to be ~5 inches. And can look great. That being said each new generation seems to look better and better. I had one originally and it was wonderful, with an amazing amount of fins. Then it died... But a very nice couple I know gave me there colony when they heard I was looking for a Ruby Red to replace mine. Well that was ~17 fish. I ended up giving a few away to other folk but I still have about 14 around. (The fry well I tend not to save them for long.) Anyways the thing is the alpha male they had is the guy in the 135. He has a ton of color and if you really want to see some craziness put these guys with the females. Color and shaking so much you think they are going to kill themselves.

Anyways the problem was that I like fins a lot and well when you have fish competing for top spot in the mating order the fins tend to get nipped. So I am raising a new little guy that is about 3rd generation. He has had some amazing color, seeing as he is only ~1.5 inches now. (And if anything he lost a little color.)

Also females tend to be brown but I have a few that have some red and I have seen some that I swore were males till they were holding. Honestly my group is ok, I have seen an amazing breeding group that another AAAA member has and wow was all I could say. He gave them 2 75 gallon tanks or more and well there was 1 tank with 1 male and all females and that male was stunning and his brother in the other tank I was tempted to try to buy off the guy. (But I hope my little guy will be a match for him someday just a few years in the making...)

I must warn people that these fish can be poorly bread. IE you will see some in petsmart that are semi ruby reds semi red shoulders. (Note these fish were line bred from red shoulders ie Aulonocara sp. ''Stuartgranti Maleri".)

Oh and my alpha male will go against fish 3-4 times his size... They can be aggressive little peacocks.
