the compressiceps look to have more yellow coloration rather than orange as juveniles

looks like a strigatus to me too, that too a hybrid.

is it possible, well yes, but where did the store get their fish? Check that out, and that may help you narrow down. Often fish are sold under the wrong ID.

I'd have some plants in your tank...naturally the comp. are ambush hunters and hunt by hiding themselves in the grass and weeds. The fish does appear to have a much shorter snout...but his coloration looks right to me given he is young. Still a cool fish either way but definately add some plants and I bet he'll hang out a lot in there.

they will definately blossom nicely and my friend is giving me some plants today to accomidate...thanks guys a appreciate the help
