well the strigatus is a great looking fish but i would like to bring up the fact that store i purchaced it from mislabeled the fish...the thing i dont understand is how a fish store as reputable as this could have made a mistake being that u said the identification is very clear

You shouldn't hold it against them. If they bought them from a supplier under that label, than they will sell it as such. Not all the retailers have the knowledge to identify every single fish to perfection. If you'd know for sure that they misslabelled to make more money, then that can be held against them, otherwise it's just an honest mistake and forums like this make up for it as we did identify your fish :headbang2

Here for example Strigatus is rare, I haven't seen one around. I'd pay double on a pair than Compressiceps for example, as they are really common. I know a guy trying to sell his adult proven pair for 40$ (Canadian) and he's had them for sale for months.

Get yourself a nice group of Strigatus and when bored let me know, we'll do the switch, I'll send you Comps you send me the Strigs :naughty:

Its too bad you did not end up with the fish that you wanted, the comp has a very unique look.Have you ever seen the albino comp, they used to be big money here but now they are pretty cheap.

their supplier could have very well mislabeled the strigatus...but hey man i might take you up on that offer if i cant find any comps or if u really want the strigatus

This is why i changed from keeping african cichlids for 25 years to south american fish.Way too many Hybrids and this is a hybrid sorry to say.The blotches/bars in the middle are not stress colors.

Looks like a miox to me. Getting eyebiters around here its a dime a dozen. I had some adults and they were the meaniest SOBs. They produced hundreds of fry everytime. My males would constantly fight. I ended giving away my super aggresiver male. He killed another male and killed a female. I gave him to a friend who has a few larger eyebiters. My male killed his largermale and one of his females. Last i heard he was causing trouble in some other tank
