I would like to make an African Cichlid tank out of my 55 gallon and I can not decide on the fish nor do I know much about Africans to find compatible fish. If Tanganyika setup then I just MUST have A. Calvus and as far as Malawi goes anything colorful will do. Just need suggestions and based on looks Ill try to pick which one Ill setup.

Meanwhile getting some marine sand for the setup.... :)

i have a 55gal and have african cichlids. most of my fish in the 55gal are in my sig.
i also have some pics available under my profile. they are actualy mostly malawi, and some tanganican i think. not posetive on all the reagens. they all get along. my general rule is if the smallest fish cant be eaten by the bigest fish they should be ok but i might just be lucky to  . any feed back on this is also apreciated. oh also i do beleave my 55gal is a bit crowded.

i dont know the driffence

I'm awful and have both mixed.

Been doing quite well for over a year, so I've left them to be.

I know.

I'm going to hell.

I had no idea what I was doing at the time though.

GEEZ.

Anyway...Tanganyikas are awesome.

I :hearts: Julies.

Yup, Tanganyika it is.
Altolamprologus Compressiceps (2x)
Altolamprologus calvus (2x)
Tropheus duboisi
Eretmodus cyanostictus
Is what I want right now.

My Av. speaks for itself buuuuttt..... You can do both! Atleast thats what one of my 55's has been doing for a while. Calvus don't get terribly big...atleast not fast, and as long as the peacocks are healthy you shouldn't have any problems. I've got a Germ. red, 2 red empress, sunshine, yellow blaze, banche, 2 calvus (black and a white) and an orange pike....don't forget a pleco. I haven't had any problems with them getting along. Almost forgot, red snook too.

OMG I want a red snook.

they get terribly big though don't they?!?:)

I saw a breeding pair and I've never seen two fish buck so hard in my life.

They didn't give a ****.

red snook are pretty much peacock-bass-Lite. The orange ones are ugly, but the natural bar-colored ones make me drool.

Don't keep Tropheus (duboisi and moori) with calvus. Don't keep malawi mbuna or Nimbochromis malawi haps with them either.

Most tetras and barbs, excepting neons/cardinals, would make great tankmates for calvus.
