Malaysian driftwood and tannins

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that is one cool piece of bogwood you have. I love the stuff too, mopani a little more though. I leave it in a bucket, pouring boiling water on it, tipping out the bucket every day for bout a week, usually works pretty good

carbon should help as it absorbs chemical compounds, that's why it's recommended to remove carbon when you medicate a tank. Try increasing the carbon in your filter and let us know if it works. Oh, and another thing, i tried raising neon tetras before using peat water, and the water never had that tannin look even though i used a lot of peat, but i also had a lot of carbon in my filter.

That will probably leach for a while, it's a big piece. I added a lot more filter floss and that helped to take out the smaller particles, will need more maintanence on it for a week or two though.

Rather than boiling it, there is an easier method for very large pieces of wood. I don't have time now, but I will put up a method that has worked well for VERY large pieces, for me in the past, later tonight.

I use my house Tub... Who needs to take a shower? lol I just drain it and fill with hot water from the tap... worked fine the first few peace now this big one is taking along time... Id say re soak yours. Add a few Mist.fish in the water to save your self from Mist.

I usually just bake it, then freeze it...

We are talking about wood here... not cookies...

Eh... if it was good enough for my feeders, it is good enough for me. Extra yummy for them.
