As far as being able to crush then, my Madagasan Paretoplus could almost rid a heavily infested MTS tank in less than day or 2, (I'm out of my element with rift lake species).
The samba easily crunched down small and medium ones, and they would use their can opener like teeth to extract flesh from the large snails.

My oscar and green severum will crunch down MTS like they're candy. Every now and then I throw some in their tank since my other tanks all have MTS in them. The crunching sound sounds horrible LOL.

At the end of the day though, if you have too many snails, you're feeding too much. Feed lightly and you won't even notice the snails. Some snails are a good thing IMO.

Madagascan cichlids, perhaps, some of most primitive and unchanged (since prehistoric times) cichlids on the planet (along with Etroplus), they (both genera) have a system for processing sound, that is different from all other cichlids.

another species P. kieneri
