Yes one of the girls is very very plain but recently one has developed that spotty spangling on her face. No blue in any girl though. The boy is tough to photograph, he hides in his little tree trunk all day.

mine started turning blue around 3 inches, thats when i new he was a male, but females can also get some blue speckles, look at the lateral line and if theres dotting under it its usually a male, look at the dorsal fins too, if theyre pointed its usually male, dull its female, or you could always just wait untill they get bigger lol but thats no fun

but thats no fun

Exactly! Im trying to thin the her actually but need to sex them before i know which one to sell. I have 5 1" costa ricans growing out so im tying to keep the male of each. Also whats up with the yellow and blue doviis? I ordered these in a group that was suppose to contain both but does that mean a male yellow will look as yellow as a female blue ? I have another growing out from this batcj and he/she is extremely yellow. Im so confused. :nilly:

to tell you the truth i have no idea, my lfs had a batch of dovii one day and i picked up 3 and mine turned out to be the blue variety, in about 3 months the biggest one killed off his siblings, at night of course, id wake up in teh morning check up on them and there he is hiding in his cave happy as ever with half of his sister floating around. ruthless little fish.

pretty sure the nicuraguens are the blues and costa ricans or more yellowish based color

all the information i have found say this. costa ricans are yellow. i have a 2" f1 costa rican growing out myself. from what i understand the costa rican males are supost to be blue backed and blue tails the rest is strong yellow. at least that is what i was told and seen from pics.
