my male is tearing up my female leo up like no other right now.
I figured her to be preg already she has slight swelling but i am not 100% convinced yet??
He already went through a big biteing time frame 2 months ago and then she healed now biteing again
my question is does anyone notice there males biting on the females after they are already preg
i know in most cases no from the previous tmes he didn't bite on her once she was preg???:nilly::nilly:
thanks in advance Brent

Yeah thats exactly how I lost one of my breeding female henlei, the male really beat her up and she died. Aborted 4 dead pups so that how I know she was prego. Watch if it gets to bad you should move the male.

that was a beautifull henlei that you lost....

My Leo pair have started showing breeding sign's in the last couple of months, the female showing up with a few bite mark's on her, and i had been a bit worried about just what you are experiencing Brent. I got a quote for a new tank for them, acrylic 8'x4'x2.5' with a removable divider so when the female is preg i can drop the divider in and give her space. And after you posting these problem'sBrent and you Mike loosing a female to this i think it is best if i do get the divider made with it.

might be a good idea to just separate the male anyway brent.... safety reasons....

I'm going through a very similar thing with my motoro's :(.

It's about 2 months since I witnessed them mating, but the male continued to chew on the females disk in the same place and was just making the wound worse. I seperated them and the wounds have healed nicely :).

Problem is, every time I try removing the divider (on 3 seperate occasions), the male goes straight back to his old biting habits! :irked:.
I can't tell for sure if the female is pregnant though, she looks fat enough but no distinct bulges. Her appetite has certainly increased in the last month though.

I'm actually considering selling the male because I haven't got another suitable tank for him and I don't want to keep the tank divided forever :(.
I'm sure he's blowing kisses to her through the holes in the divider just to wind me up too....lol!

It's also possible she is about ready to give birth because mating usually occurs at this time. If it's too rough on the female I personally would probably seperate just to be safe.

Very true, two of my leo females should birth anyday and there is alot of biting going on. But this time the male is more beatup then the females.
