Bahia red is Gymnogeophagus sp. "Bahia red". Looks quite similar and probably a close relative to "Geophagus" brasiliensis. By the way the reason "Geophagus' is put in quotation for this species is that it is well known that it is not a "real" Geophagus. These fish superfiscially resemble a Geophagus because they make there living in similar way. Many beleive they are much closer to Heroine ( all CA cichlids, and SA cichlids such as chocalates, chanchittos, sevs etc.) then they are to any Geophagus. ON this forum, from an old archive picture from the ACA, "G". brasiliensis was shown to have been crossed with a CA Veija, producing offspring, though I do not know if the offspring were fertile. Sort of gives evidence to what most people suspect: these fishes are closer to Heroine, then they are to any Geophagus.

Unfortunately the link provided shows no pictures of the Jag and goldsaum parents with their offspring, so i have a hard time beleiving it. I see it as unlikely, though I can't say it's impossible. No real proof of it though(?), and the picture of the hybrid offspring doesn't have any resemblence to a Goldsaum. Similarily, a con X GT cross, to me, seems sort of unlikely, though definately not impossible. Then again, Acaras may be closer to heroine then us aquarists tend to think.
