Well... since nobody wanted to buy him, I guess I'll give a little update on my male H. Psittacus. He is now a little over 9.5". His green color would be more dramatic if I had a black background on the tank. He spends all day watching the small grow-outs I have in the tank next to him. He's currently in a 40 breeder alone, and I guess will have to stay there until I finish moving, and can set up a larger tank for them.

looks great,if i had the room i would take them, maybe soon.

I'd definitely take him but I'm nowhere near NYC. Mine is almost that size now and looks amazing. Not sure how the two boys would get along, but they are certainly show-stoppers when they get some size on them.

I'd love to have bought him, but I didn't have the budget for it. He's a gorgeous fish!

Thanks guys. A part of me was hoping nobody would take them, but the other part knows they would be much happier in an adequate sized tank.

Thanks. I doubt they would get along very well. The conspecific agression in these guys is ridiculous.

that's a good looking fish! lots of attitude.

Thanks. Yeah, he has a pretty nice attitude. I can't imagine how he'll be once full grown.

How do you guys know they're males? I thought these fish were sexually monomorphic?

They were vented, shipped in separate bags, and held in separate tanks before I picked them up. Still not 100% foolproof, but I don't know any better way to sex sexually monomorphic fish?? I do however notice some differences in behavior between the male and females. The male is much more social, aggressive, and has grown quicker than the females.

looks great, im still not sure what mine is. i've never tried to vent, its become a lot more aggressive recently
