male jaguar went beserk

my male jag went bonkers tonight on my female. the weird thing was they've had fry for over two weeks now

i had no choice but to seperate them with a divider. the female still looks kind of traumatised and the fry are all over the tank and look very disoriented. half are with the dad and half are with the mom, and they are all lingering around the divider probably getting mixed signals from them.

i hope things calm down. it was like watching a 300+ size family break up cuz the parent's divorced.

what do you mean by went beserk?, if it was anything like jaw locking, then it was just courtship.

jaw locking and he started seriously beating on the female. the female went into fright colors and was getting chased around the tank.
plus the male turned all dark and his eyes went all red (evil mode??). no choice... i didnt want to risk a dead female.

my question is how big is your pair and your tank?

pair is in a 40.
male is ~6" and female about 5"...

kinda sounds a little small

um another questin how long have they been together?

40 regular
36x15x15 or something like that
yeah it's not ideal...

they have bred before (with previous owner). they were in the same tank (divided) for like a month before i introduced them again and they paired off (without any fighting i must add).
they were getting along well for a week without incident, then they laid eggs, and they have been parenting this current batch for 2 weeks.

well like how long did the fight last and how agrresive was it?
is the femals fin torn or any major damage?

well it went on for around 10 minutes and the female was obviously getting smashed up towards the end. i dont want to wait around for major damage to take place...
i'll just see what happens in the morning...

just keep the divider there till he cools down
