Male Leo not eating and acting not like usual

Doing very well, only a small hint of a dent left, eating very well and actively searching for food like he used to, I'd say he's at 95% but ya much better. Still a bit to go, gotta fatten him back up.

This is strange, he's hungry, goes nuts when food gets dropped it, but ignores shrimp and worms. Hell spit the shrimp out, won't go for the worms, but looks like he is eating the smelt, but problem is he's not getting to eat that much cuz a) he sucks at finding them and b) by the time he gets around to it not many of them are left due to the other fish. When I feed I feed pellets to fill up the bass and catfish, and then a mix of worms shrimp and smelt, should I stick to one at a time maybe? Sometimes he definitely eats worms, not positive about shrimp but I think sometimes he eats them too, just a lot of the time it seems the smelt is what he wants, should I hold the smelt for a bit so he eats the other stuff again or is that risky with how thin he is?

Maybe try a divider to limit stress from the other fish and allow him to eat when he is comfortable. I would just get him eating whatever possible.

well, for my next feeding should i give him all smelt or all shrimp or all worms? on one hand he needs to get eating and gain some strength so smelt seems likea good choice but will that just further support him being picky and make it harder for him to eat other stuff later??

So today I fed then just shrimp and worms. He ignored shrimp entirely. He then went for one worm. He struggled with it for like 4 minutes, but fought it hard and I believe he got it down. Didn't go for any shrimp after that nor the couple worms that were left. Then I cut up a smelt and threw it in. He went right for it, and I think he ate one or two pieces, looked like he really liked it, but then I watched him closely and he would inhale the same piece and spit it back out multiple times. I do believe there was one or two he ate, but there was a lot to choose from but he seemed to enjoy chewing on them and spitting them out. He is active, he is hungry, but he's not fattening up or eating all that's provided. What's worse he looks a bit more thin today and the dent is a bit more pronounced. This is irritating.

Are you cutting up your food at all? I find that cutting into smaller peices help them get it down better, Pigs eat even more and picky rays eat a good amount more then if you are throwing large food peices.

Yes I am, and he has no problem inhaling it he just spits it back out. Pieces are quite small, worms in halves, maybe I gotta do Thirds.

I was trying to remember the size your ray is but overall with mine they seem to eat better when its cut up small, large shrimp I cut up into 3rds more or less, worms I use to do in 3rd as well, even though they can eat them full just easier smaller, Are you feeding once a day or twice a day?
Still seems like its something else as a real problem though but I dont know or have any idea, I would probably be adding some salt to the water and try to lower stress in the tank if any exists not sure if that will do anything to help but in my opinion cant hurt anything. Good water, lots of food and they are usually happy

Feed him his favorite foods several times a day cut up into small pieces. Your number one priority is to get him eating and fattened up. Once he is fat and eating aggressively, then you can focus on switching him to other foods.
