hey guys i have kept many large male cichlids before including midas, umbees, festaes, red devils, etc, but have not kept a motaguense. i am wondering how aggressive they are, and do they have good owner responsiveness? i was thinking about getting another midas but the lfs has some motas in stock. thanks in advance. :nilly:

Only thing I have personally kept that is more aggro, is a Dovii....And I have seen nice Temperament dovii's....Never seen a "nice" motag...They are vicious....

I asked this question a while back and I ended up getting a 5" male. He is great. He doesn't hide and he is always out front. Begs for food and fights his reflection and actually hit my tongs yesterday when I was getting some uneaten food out of his tank. Get the motag!

very mean probably have the most vicious teeth of any cichlid species

Agreed. Male motas can be major killers. They get fairly big too. My male is about 10 inches SL.

the only thing my male didn't kill was his female

Wow! I always thought the parachromis species weren't too insane, other than Dovii and Jags.

x2, my male has teeth over 1/4" long. :WHOA:
He's not overly aggressive though-probably due to a bad eye and fin.
