IP addresses are nowhere near as reliable as they used to be for tracking purposes, especially with ISP's cycling dynamic IPS in large pools. At any rate, its fixed.

Anyway, I wouldn't throw in extra food right now while your tank is cycling (from your other thread). The rays will be fine and go back to normal, just keep up with your water changes and keep the water clean.

Yah...if your government is SERIOUSLY cruising the web spending your tax dollars to "bust" a guy that has a couple of fish, your country is in really big trouble. If you seriously think the police or fish and game or whatever you want to call it is going to break down his door to apprehend his pets your crazy. On another note, saying you don't care you are doing something illegal on a public web site viewed by hundreds of thousands of people each year is not a very graceful move to say the least. I understand it is not the same as slinging crack or guns but still not smart.

Lets see, local officials would have to subpoena MFK. MFK could give up the last IP I logged in from. Then they would have to subpoena the ISP to get the account that IP was last used by. So involvement from 2 different companies and cooperation with 2 separate subpoenas. Then, you still have to consider that my IP Could have changed by then. Im telling you, as someone who used to work for an ISP, that DHCP Addresses can switch between as many as 50 people in the duration of one day. It all really depends on how long things like TTL are setup for, and if they will renew the same IP if your TTL doesnt expire, but at any rate, Im not too concerned about the cops/sheriffs/feds busting down my door over a couple pets. So here, enjoy a and relax.

The internet is awfully anonymous, but with a little work, you can find out quite a bit on a person. Fact of the matter is, all of us are so unimportant no one cares about us when there are bigger fish to fry. (ha)

That said...I don't think its worth it to push the limits. Roor, you're probably right, you won't get in trouble...but still, its something to keep quiet. Plus, saying you're from ??? and have such and such a fish might encourage others to do acquire fish that they shouldn't and they might not be as smart or careful with them. I think MFK wants to stop that. Plus if they know you're doing something illegal, that puts them in a spot too, as the feds could end up going after them because they knew about such activity.
