male or female convicts?

They mature fast. I have a pair (female 1" male 1 1/2") guarding eggs as I type. By the time you figure out how to vent them they will be large enough to sex with certainty

ok guys im back an with my 5th batch i got an eye for this. at like 1/2 inch you can tell which ones are goin to be male an female an i already got mine sperated :) at this length the females will have a tiny orange spot on them you have to look real hard to see it but all females have it. some orange spots will be bigger then others but they all got it. an for the males they dont have the little orange spot. its easier to do this if you have "for me" more then 20 together.

i think its more of a certain age at which you can see the orange than the size. at the LFS you will see 1" cons breeding and i think this is because they are older than they look. no doubt they mature and breed quick but when i raised my marbled cons from egg they were pretty big before the females showed any orange. even after they were all past the 1.5-2" mark i thought i had all males. then they slowly started to show the orange bellies and i started to cull all the males as feeders.
