Male or Female?? Gold Saum

I purchased this guy at about 2 inches, and it was sold to me as a green terror. Would like to get more when I updrade to a larger tank, although local stores don't offer a lot of the species I'm interested in getting. Another Saum would be nice, possibly an acara or Andinoacara Stalsbergi would be sweet. I love this gold saum. Lots of personality and she colors up real nice depending on her mood.
Nothing at all wrong with that imo, gold saums have been called green terrors in this country pretty much since they showed up here. But, yeah, they're awesome fish ime.

Some places they're called something else-- link to fishbase, a taxonomic database. While fishbase lists green terror as a common name for A. rivulatus (ITIS apparently hasn't updated from Aequidens to Andinoacara, but also calls them 'green terror'), you can look up A. stalsbergi on fishbase and there's no such link to 'green terror', not that I'm saying you couldn't call stalsbergi a green terror. In any case, since 'green terror' is a nickname in the first place, imo arguing that this or that fish is or isn't a 'true' green terror is a little like arguing over which is the "true" Sugar Ray, Robinson, Leonard, or the band. Kind of a useless argument imo.

Nice tank, TripleW...

...About 20 years ago a shop I liked (hesitate to call it a lfs, this place was a serious aquarium shop, little resemblance to today's typical "lfs") had a display tank full of "green terrors", all gold saums. Don't remember exact tank size, but it probably had 8-10 adults, plus some juvies of various sizes-- it was an awesome tank!
