male or female green terror?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no, most males will have at least a small nuchal hump but not all and there are several factors that play into this as well besides genetics, but i think that it is male due to the iridescence of the body scales and the fact that it has intricate patterning within its dorsal fin and only has a little bit of blue spotting on its gill plate but not really bearding/smudging like a female would have

Also don't females only have a small amount of orange on their tales? Like the top half has a bit of orange or silver, where as the males the tip of the whole tale is orange or silver or is that not always the case?

ok. thanks for clearing that up some. i thought it was female because i had a green terror before that was extremely bright green with a nuchal hump but it was 7 or 8 in when he died. this one is irridescent but not as bright as the other one. i'm hoping it will become like my old one when it gets older.

I don't you can tell from this picture. I've seen males that look like this and females as well. I mean the scales are irridescent but not a lot and the color is not very bright.
There is also not really a nochal hump, females can have a head like this one as well. And the fins aren't really long.
Still I'd say female.

Females have more of a stout body shape and typically have much less coloration throughout the body. All the females I've seen have black markings on their gill plates as well.

I looks male from all I can tell but the washed out color from the camera is throwing me off. Looks like a male with the coloring of a female.

how can you tell he's a male? my camera is low on battery so the pic is crappy. i thought all males have a nuchal hump. i've had him for about 6 months.

Wow, how long is he? I am totally jealous mine is about 5 months old and is barely pushing 4".
