Male or female Jack Dempsy

Looks female, more oval than elongated body and the dead give away is the blue beard. Notice all the extra blue under her eyes sweeping back to her gills.

Here is a female in breeding colors, it really shows the beard

Ok. Thank you.

When I bought it ( her ), she was Jet black. She has lightened up since acclimated. She is so agressive I figured it was male. I've kept almost every SA/CA except a Jack mostly because they are so common.
But when I saw this one at the local store it was so jet black it almost reminded me of an African bumblebee cichlid.
What I do like about her is that she is very active and cruising around the tank bossing everyone around. Most jacks I've seen seem to hide in their caves.
Now that I've confirmed that she's most likely female I'm going to look for a male to add to the tank
Do you think I would be better off adding several young juveniles at the same time and see if she takes interest in any of them? ...
or look for a similar sized male as a single specimen to add in?

Which one of those scenarios would be more successful?

thank you!
