Male or female Jack Dempsy

If you decide to get only one male- you got to to give her help getting in the mood before she meets him.
you need to start feeding her frozen bloodworms 3 times a week, feeding her small amounts 3-4 times a day and give her daily 10% water changes, I like to trickle the water back in.

you do that for 2 weeks while you wait for/ quarantine your male and she will be hot to trot when she meets him, greatly improving your odds.

plus 1 for Kevin. Great shipper of great fish.

Cold water changes can help as well. To simulate the snow melt runoff in spring time. The addition of extra food as mentioned helps to stimulate the fish into thinking its spring/breeding season.

I have seen people on this site talk about the cold but small percentage water change to induce breeding.
Do you continue to do this after breeding behavior starts?
If so, for how long?

I’ll do it until I get too busy. Or a scheduling conflict prevents it. But the whole time I’m spawning/ raising fry I use that method. Once fry are older around 30 days I’ll put them on a bigger water change schedule.

For me it becomes as much part of the maintenance routine as it does the conditioning program for this part of the year.

But like jexnell said- it’s just one of your triggers. Once you got eggs- you got them.
