yeah male, that is the trouble with trying to sex most cichlids by their color/patterning when they are young, some specimens can cross-dress for quite awhile and confuse you

same fish a month ago lol... everyone said it was a female. I'm glad it's a male though more room for growth

i actually think it looks pretty male in that pic as well just hadnt gotten rid of all the barring yet, but yeah some take longer to develop than others

I would have said the same if I saw this photo. The severe angle of the fish and the incorrect color balance of the photo doesn't show the male pattern. The fish you posted above, is indeed a male.
