This guy is about 8 1/2", really thick...has the red lined and pointy fins. I think it's a male but I would like to get your opinions. I've read that the males will have a couple spots mid body and towards the tail area. Would like to get a positive ID. Thanks everyone

that is definitely a big male you have there, i had a male JD that had the blue spangles all over its gill plate, the key thing is the smudging, females blue on their gill plate will have smudgey blue marks, but yeah females wont get nearly as many body pearls as your guy has

Sweet...I thought I had female JD and Jag but they are both males as far as I can tell. =D Any way to tell male or female GT at 2"?

i just wrote about this in several of the GT sexing threads that have posted recently, you should look in those and you will see tips for telling them apart

ok, I'm going to post a pic up here so you can look too. The fins when I got it weren't very pointy but they are starting to develop a point, was the biggest and most aggressive out of them all, has some good green coloring already but the head looks very sloped, maybe because it's so small?

yeah fins and head shape aren't the best way to tell on young juvies, when i had a pair my female had trailers and the beginning of a nuchal hump like a full inch before my male even started to get pointy fins

Your first picture is definitely a male JD.

Your last picture is not a JD. That's a green terror.
