Male or female JD?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hmmmm that one is pretty tricky, i cant really say for sure, i do see some coloring within the fin so its quite possibly a male but he isnt really that colored up, have you seen white/stringy poo on him at all? i have had no luck with GTs, all mine seem to succumb to bacterial infections even when everything else in the tank is healthy and my last male lost all his color and looked kind of like this before i finally just put him down, not that im saying there is anything wrong with yours just telling you what to look out for. but yeah i might lean towards male but with this one you will have to either vent it or wait till its older to tell for sure its not one of the easier ones to sex from looks

The pic quality is very poor, his fins are xtremely colorful and showing good patterns. His poo is fine, eats like a horse. I had a 9" male that just passed on me, just like you said...bacterial or parasite infection and everything else in the tank was perfect! :( I really love these fish and hope this one is as pretty as the last and will out last him too

If you payed attention to the thread I stated that I would post a pic of my GREEN TERROR for sarah to look at. Any opinions on male / female?

Oops. Sorry about that.

My gut says male due to coloring and finnage, but I'm fairly new to sexing GT's.

I hope it is...I have a female Oscar and a salvini, I'd like to keep all males just for the simple fact that they don't lay eggs and they tend to be bigger and prettier minus the sal, she is gorgeous!

I understand your passion for your salvini. I have a female sal myself. She killed the other salvini I had with her.

They're not much to look at when they're young, but they are eye-poppers as adults!

ok yeah if it has nice reddish designs within the fins and is showing good body color then i would definitely say male but venting will be the 100% way to tell, sorry about your last GT it always sucks losing a nice fish like that especially one you have raised to such a good size

wow yeah that is really fast growth for a GT, crazy that he suddenly died like that when he was doing so well, but yeah sounds like your new guy is on his way :)
