Male or female ray

Males have claspers (x2) like sharks. Females do not have them.
The claspers get larger as the ray grows.. In pups, they will be small and not always able to see unless you are looking rt at the bottom (underside) of the ray.

I kept rays for years I just could never determine the sex and neither could my LFS. I never had any problems with them at all. So if you need any advice on your rays I'll be glad to help thanks little guy

If you kept rays for years you wouldn't be asking such a question. Even worse when a lfs doesn't even know how to sex rays. They can be sexed as soon as they are born. The search feature works good to find this info too! Good luck again with those rays!

Thank you for all the positive info and the other comments as well. And as I said I have kept rays but was never interested in attempting to mate them until now. My rays are doing great and I'm currently looking for a female now. Again thank you everyone has been helpful.

Just so you know. If you have more than one mature male in with one another and only one female, you will prob be asking for trouble. The males are not really kind to a female when its time to mate. And having more than one male in with only one female is asking for trouble. If your tank is huge (pond size) and lots of area, thats a little different, but in most tanks, like the average ray owner has, its not a good idea...
Its also really hard on the female if your males mature before she does.. Trust me, when a male wants to mate, its not kind.. Can be really hard on the female..
do the research on breeding..
