male or female?

In my experience all the rays I ever owned, I notice male r more hardy they eat more.

my female eats way more than my male. he used to be super aggressive eating, but the last 6 months or so, he's become so passive eating. she will eat her entire portion within 5 min, he will casually eat his over the course of an hr, i kid you not.

i don't have the experience with multiples of rays, so i am not trying to argue with you over males vs females on average.

if looking for a smaller ray type, since scobina are next to nonexistent in the hobby lately, and you can get your hands on a hystrix, go for it. it would be my next ray of choice financially speaking. it grows to about the same size roughly as retics without the longer tail, they've been described as being quite easy to care for, easier on feeding and taking new foods, and to be honest, i love the patterns on them.

retics are great if you get them past that first bit of instability after import/purchase. they are easy after that. it's that crucial little bit at the beginning when they are starving and stressed where a lot of them die.

of course if we all could afford it, i'm sure we'd have massive setups to the nines full of black rays haha

looking for hystrix as they are smaller, more manageable... i currently have a 55g but working on a 300g tank i have an ac70 hob filter at the moment but will run 2 eheims in the 300 along with 1 or 2 ac110. buying from online store

then get a male they are even smaller
